The External type keyway milling machines is designed for machining keyways on the O.D. of shafts. The machine has V Shaped base the acoomodates diameters of various sizes. The base is held in position using a chain mounting system and adjustable nut. Reference can be taken from anywhere on the shaft.

It can be used to create a flat surface, slots, pockets and keyways. The machine is equipped with a small dia end mill, which is generally electrically driven, but pneumatic and hydraulic drive options can also be made available. The linear travel can be manual or auto, as desired.

The machines are compact and can be mounted on any part along the axis of the shaft as desired. It can also be mounted at an angle to mill multiple keyways, maintaining the certain angle with respect to each other. The machine can be mounted taking reference form the existing machined surface or even independent of it, as required.
